Our Story: As a former regional buyer for Best Buy I saw a need to create a distribution company that is totally dedicated to the Independent artist. In the eyes of the major music labels, bigger is always better and each month they would present me with their upcoming new releases in the order of the projected initial orders (IO). Time after time, the staff in my stores would alert me of a new artist from their local market that the music labels never bothered to tell me about because the IO was too far down on their list.
How it Works: J Distribution is here to help you, the Independent artist. We have the insight and the connections to place the right regional and local artists into the right Best Buy locations across the United States. And best of all, we PAY YOU for everything you sell. We do not believe in loading a lot of CD's into the stores, so start-up costs are low. Instead, we start off with light orders and let demand dictate the proper inventory levels for each location. There is a set up fee of $250.00 that is billed along with the first purchase order. (see our deal tab)
Who We Want: J Distribution is not a marketing or promotion company, so it is important that the bands we partner with work hard at developing a fan base in a tight geographical area. The more publicity you have that lets the consumer know who you are the better. Repeat performances in markets on a regular basis as well as a strong following on your web site and MySpace pages are important. Radio play is great, but not essential. We understand how tough that can be in today's market.
If you are ready to take your band to the next level click on the Submissions tab and print the forms. Complete these forms with as much detail as you can. This will help us to determine if you are right for the program and what markets and stores to place your title(s) in. Send the completed forms with three (3) copies of your professionally produced CD (all CD's must have a UPC if you do not have on you should be able to get one from your dupication company) to the mailing address on the form. We will review your information and discuss your title(s) with the regional Entertainment Managers at Best Buy and get back to you with our decision. Upon completion of the review process and acceptance into the program you will receive your first purchase order.
FAQ
How long will it take? It will take. 5-8 weeks from the time I receive your submission package to having your cd's in the stores.
How many stores will carry the CD? That depends on your home and touring markets as well as airplay. Some artists are in as few as 2 stores others are in over a hundred.
What do I get for my $250.00 set up fee? The fee covers setting your title up in Best Buys system, communicating your information to the buyer, shipping the CD to the ware house and ware housing additional inventory.
What if I have more than on title? The original set up fee is $250.00 for the first CD. All additional titles and future releases will have a set up fee of only $100.00 each.
If I send in the submission package am I in the program? No. There is a review process on the viability of your cd. You will be contacted within a week of us receiving your submission updating you on the progress.

Is i-tunes included in the set up fee? No. The I tunes program is a seperate program that has a $50.00 set up fee. There is also a seperate contract for i tunes which you can request if you would like to be on i tunes.
How much do I get for my CD's? On the vendor agreement is the pricing structure. We pay $5.15 for full length cd's that are sold and $ 3.65 for EP's that are sold. All sales are consignment you get paid as the CD's sell in the stores.
